Hearing the types of questions takes me back...Wow! Hearing the types of questions takes me back to my youth :) hehe (old man that I am) and all the questions I had growing up.

My first comment...... God cares about your heart! I can't emphasis enough that you can follow every rule that God or your parents lay out for you and still be a burden to God and your parents, if you have a heart that is complacent or grumbling. I am not saying this is the case for you :) but it was certainly the case for myself. I believe every child at some point of deflection has to ask themselves, why do I want to challenge the rules set down by my parents? I often think of Ravi Zacharius commenting on a C.S. Lewis quote, "Be sure to find out why a fence was put up in the first place before you tear it down"! I was the rebel in the family growing up and I can say with total conviction that I followed all the laws that mom and dad laid out for me how they saw it from scripture, but I never pleased God! At times the desire to break those rules came from a lack of fellowship with mom and dad, and at times it came wanting the attention of (most often :) girls and seeking their approval. It was my heart that condemned me before God, and not just that I was breaking rules! So as my first thought for you when you are seeking answers to questions you need to really take 2 Timothy 2:15 to heart. "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman who needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

To be totally honest with you, I do not think that my parents did everything right in raising me and I'm sure they would say the same thing, BUT, God isn't interested in what they did in my life, He is interested in what I do. My actions and responses are what is important and not just what circumstances I had to endure or live through. We could find hundreds of biblical examples of instances where Christians of old were persecuted beyond anything we can imagine, and all God required of them was to be faithful to him.

The next most important thought for you here is that...... I think asking these questions is perfectly legitimate, and I asked many such questions growing up. The maturity that I lacked at the time though was understanding how much I set myself up for going down the wrong path by asking these questions of certain people. You see, if I really wanted I could ask many groups of people if it were okay to be a homosexual and I can still be a Christian. There would be lots of people who would tell me it would be okay. Man, I've even had people tell me that I can commit murder and go to heaven even if I were to never repent. See where I am heading with this :)??? My point is that you will get a variety of answers from every point of view, and depending on the path you want to take you can get affirmation to do anything that you want. So, asking the question is good, but it can also give you the confidence to walk down a certain path that God may not want you to go. So you must be very wise with the advise that you get from people, and again examine your own heart in whether you are looking for answers or simply someone to back you up in a direction you want to go. Sadly I made many bad decision in my young adult life based on the advise of very unwise people, however sincere or caring they were.

I have thoughts on the specifics, but will have to break this post up. It's too long :)!

I will be praying for you as you seek these answers for yourself.

God bless

NathanAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15540660077403288177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6630750662918597685.post-5558027978470348942010-02-14T12:49:12.037-08:002010-02-14T12:49:12.037-08:00Wow! I like it when people can discuss what they believe without hard feelings.
First off, the dress/pant thing. I went to PCC (where you can only wear dresses) for two years. I must say after that, I've come to the conclusion that dresses are not necessarily more modest than pants. A lot of times pants are just so much more practical. The "all dress" argument oftentimes uses a verse in the Bible that says that a women shouldn't wear a man's apparel. If you look at woman's pants though, they are nothing like a man's pants. I think that dressing distinctly female and modest is what's important. As far as hair. I had extremely long hair until I got about 18. I used to get headaches from my hair and it was difficult to manage. I believe that a guy shouldn't have hair that you look at and say that's long (shoulder length) and a girl shouldn't have hair you look at and say that's short. For instance, if a guy had shoulder length hair, you'd call it long; so I believe it is long on a girl too. With jewelry. I'm thinking of that verse in the Bible that says that a girls glory shouldn't be in wearing of fine jewelry. In the Bible days, it was a sign of wealth to wear jewelry (all the rich snobby people wore it). I don't think that the focus should be on the outside. Howbeit, I don't see a clear indication from the Bible that it is wrong to wear any jewelry at all.
Children. . . I believe that children are a blessing so you should have as many as possible; but if it gets to the point where it's a health hazard (obviously God has closed the door), I think that you should stop.
I personally don't see a problem with a girl working outside the home as long as she still keeps her home in order. You can still be a keeper at home and work outside the home.
Dancing. . . I see no evidence in the Bible against dancing. I think that godly standards should be used while dancing, but I don't believe dancing in and of itself is wrong.
I believe the KJV is the best version to use, because it is the only one the comes from the textus receptus (that's a really long discussion).
Anyway, I do respect people who have different standards (whether stricter or less strict) who are trying to follow God. I think that most rules were made for our own good-to help us.Joanna Gracehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15681739424608666157noreply@blogger.com
