Sometimes I get lost

Sometimes I get lost.
Lost in the business of life, lost in someone else's life, lost in the world.
Often times it takes something like a breakup or a close call to wake me up and remind me that I need to find myself again.

I recently had a breakup. I found out that I had lost myself once again. I got lost in his world of deceit, rush, and alternate reality.
After all this I wake up and find myself all turned around and I'm spinning in circles trying to find a path to take.

My first choice has always been horses. I know that when I'm on a horse's back the stress and worries melt away. The path seems clearer, I understand the wrong and can see where to go.

Life seems better. The world is less scary. The leather slides through my fingers, the smell of horse sweat, the saddle creaking, the steady fall of the hooves. My life seems to take shape, my future is bright, I have hope again.
I untack when I get home, rub my horse down and thank him for the ride. A kiss is given and I turn him loose to join the herd. He walks a few steps and looks back at me as if to say, 'you gonna be okay?', I say, "you go on, love ya boy", and he turns and goes.

Then I walk back to the house, found for another day and excited about my future. It'll be good if I have horses involved.

My Superpower is InnerStrength

Someone the other day made a comment to me that made me think.
She commented that my past life has made me strong and that I might not see it now but it has.

I replied with, that I know that I'm strong and in some ways I thank my raising because I'm so strong.

I am amazed at how strong I am. I can look at most anything in life and say, I could that if I wanted to. It doesn't matter how scared I am, I can over come that and do anything.

When I was asked what I'm scared of. I had to think, what am I actually so scared of that I wouldn't be able to over come my fear, that I would do the stereotypical, run screaming.
I don't actually have a fear that strong.
I mean, I have fears, I'm scared of men, I don't like water, poisonous snakes and spiders make me squirm, heights make my stomach churn, climbing on a fresh colt for the first ride has me shaking.
But I climb on fresh colts for the fun of it, I talk to and deal with men in my day to day life, I love flying, I still climb in the boat and go out on the water and I still intend to travel where there are poisonous snakes and spiders.
To me it's not what you're scared of that matters, it's how you deal with that fear when you are faced with it. Do you run screaming or do you square your shoulders and say 'well it's not going to get done unless I do it'.

My strength has allowed me to square my shoulders and walk on with a confidence that I don't feel and face my fear with a grin.
After I'm done, I allowed myself to feel the nerves, then I knock the mud off my boots, adjust my ball cap look up with a smile and continue on.

I never had a hero growing up. Anyone I looked up to wasn't there when I needed them most. Family, friends, fictional friends...
About a year and a half after I moved out on my own I realized that I am my own hero. I moved halfway across a country to live with and work for complete strangers, I moved to a new town and found my own way, my house and my job on my own. When the trail collapsed and I was left fighting my way through the brambles I fought through it and found another way.

I am strong, way stronger than anyone knows.
They don't know that I get scared walking into a store by myself, they don't know that going out for drinks with a man scares the crap out of me, they don't know that a year ago a customer raising their voice at me almost left me in tears, they don't know that I am scared because I don't know my future, they don't know, they don't know at all.
What they see is a confident walk, a bright smile for the gentleman, a calm attitude when handling that customer and me talking happily about my future.

I face my fears, my strength pulls me through.
I learn that some things aren't as scary as I thought so I gather confidence and strength from that and move on to the next level and more scary things.
Strength is what keeps me rolling, keeps me from calling it quits on life.

Strength... My strength...
That's my hero!

This Girl

I'm a country girl and I'm proud of my roots.

I can wear camo and make it look classy. I don't wear plaid because it's popular, I wear it because that's what I've always worn. I wear blue jeans and cowboy boots because that's what I'm most comfortable in.

I can dress up or dress down. Put me in a dress and heels or jeans and muckers, I'll get the job done and it'll be done right.

I've wrestled calves and broken in colts while wearing an ankle length skirt.
A cow can kick me or a horse throw in a buck and I keep my cool.

I'm not the fastest, I'm not the prettiest
I don't have to be
I am me

Checking in on life

Two years ago I wrote a list to help me explain to my doctor what I was feeling.
Here is that list.

Sadness
Anger, then turns to sadness
Fear and anxiety
No feelings ether way
Eating just out of necessity
Highs are not very high
Lows are more common and last for a long time
Crying spells
Hopeless
Life seems worthless
The smallest thing turns my high day to a low day
No energy
Forget everything

I'm a chameleon and I go with what ever someone says.

When someone else is laughing, I can't eve imagine what it feels like anymore.

I was diagnosed with severe depression and Post Traumatic Stress symptoms shortly after this.
I went into intense therapy and my doctor started me onto a low dose medication.

I reread this to remind myself what it was like, that I have come a long ways and that I need to maintain what I and so many other people have build and helped build.

I am allowed to cry, I am allowed to laugh, I am allowed to express all the emotions that I am feeling.

I am even allowed to sing and dance simply because I feel like it!

If this is what it feels like to be a person, I want to help others to figure out how to feel this way.

We are the grand daughters of the witches you weren't able to burn

You tried to sit us down, sew our mouths shut with our own needles and thread and kept us only in the kitchen because you knew how strong we were. You burned us at the stake, you beat us, you raped us, you bound us, shamed and spat upon us.

One day we cut the ropes that bound us, in silence we struggled to our feet, we stumbled, we fell, we pulled ourselves back up with sheer determination.

We held onto one another to stay standing up right until our legs straightened and we gained our strength. We cut the threads that kept us silent and started to encourage each other, we built each other up with truths and love.

We dug in deep and believed in ourselves. We found out that we had been lied to. We discovered why we had been bound. We weren't weak like you had told us, we were strong as hell.

We learned to carry ourselves with dignity. We maintained our class. We can look up with a smile and say 'fuck you' like it's a compliment. We can take criticism and use it to build our dreams into realities.
We learned that it doesn't take brute strength to change the world, but rather a smarter plan and  determination.

Sometimes we get a break and one of you gets it. You understand that we are human and that we are pretty badass! That gives us hope. There is light at the end of this long tunnel, the battle is showing signs of thinning. We are breaking through.

Finally we are almost free to embrace who we are.
We are not meant to be bound.
We must be free to go with the wind when it calls us. We need the rain to wash our souls clean. We need the danger to remind us that we're alive.
Sometimes we are gentle. Sometimes we are strong and powerful.

We are not a simply 'girls'
We are the most beautiful and dangerous storms you have ever seen.

Strength

Sometimes I have to remind myself, that no matter what, I can be anything I want to be so long as I put my mind to it.

I found this quote and fell in love with it.

Extremes

I have two extreme visions of where I want to live.

One is out were I feel nothing but nature, raising horses and cattle. It's what I know and I know I can accomplish it if I work hard enough.

This looks like heaven!

But my other dream is to live in a big city.
I want a loft apartment or a brownstone, I want to work in a small coffee shop, as an accountant, or possibly at a posh hotel.

The city lights are alluring.  But at the same time they scare the hell out of me.

I don't understand my two completely different dreams.

I am a country girl through and through. Love my horses, wide open spaces, my spirit is wild and free like a mustang in the wind.

But I'm not your average muddin, partying, redneck. I try my hardest to have class and I always try to dress tastefully even if I'm just going for a run or working around the farm.

The big city has always appealed to my classier side.
The farm has always appealed to my wild spirit.

The obvious answer would be to earn enough money that I could own both a big city apartment/house and a farm, but that won't be happening anytime soon.

No matter where I end up I have to remember to be true to me. Follow my heart even if it does scare me half to death.

Love, your daughter

I’m writing this not to ask for apologies, not to ask for forgiveness, but so someday you will hopefully understand why I did what I did. Why I cut contact for a year and a half, why I asked Dad not to contact me. I know it will hurt. It still hurts me. It’s never easy to hear that someone thinks you did the wrong thing.

I hope that you will be able to read this and know that I am doing my best to repair relationships. I will not just come and kiss a** because that is not healthy for anybody involved nor would it be true to what I actually feel and believe. I want a better childhood for my younger siblings. I do not expect change overnight and I fully appreciate the changes for the better that I have seen.
To start with, I have mentioned in the past that I was depressed when I moved to BC. You may or may not know that I also have PTS (Post Traumatic Stress) symptoms. You may or may not know that I had to have 6+ months of intense therapy and a year of low dose medication for this.
Growing up I had the impression that crying was weak and that I would be made fun of for it, I hid my tears many years. I didn’t cry when I had to sell Jewel, I didn’t cry when I sold my cows, I bit my lip when I had to go milk a wild cow that scared the living daylights out of me. I went and hid my face when Zayn called for me the whole way out the driveway when his new owner took him away, I felt like I had betrayed my best friend. I learned not to cry when all the kids ran off and didn’t allow me to play with them because ‘I was fat and wasn’t fast enough to keep up’. I always put on a smile because whenever I was either sad or mad, Mom or Dad would wistfully  remind me how as a young child, when crying, they would ask ‘Where’s your smile?’, I would look down and come up with a smile. I always put on a smile because as a person I want to please people. When the most important people in my life insinuated that the only emotion that I should show is a smile, well, I smiled. I hid my other emotions. I became a robot.
Life got harder. I had emotions. I felt like I couldn’t show them. People don’t care, all they want to see is a smile. If you showed sadness or anger, you were bitter or just being a crybaby.
I learned to never ever ask why. That was reason to get a spanking because it was rebellion. But you told us to always question what people told us to do, except if it was mom and dad. We were supposed to be smiling, obedient robots at home, yet go out in to the world and think for ourselves. It doesn’t work that way. You don’t think for yourself, you look for a leader. When that leader fails you, you fall down all the way down the well.  That is where I was when I moved to BC. I looked for a leader, I found someone who more than willingly took that position then it crashed. Even though it was a small crash and set back, it hit me like a ton of bricks and knocked me back onto my  a**. I’m lucky I was living with a psychotherapist when I hit rock bottom. She diagnosed me, got me into see a doctor and therapist. My Dr. told me later that he was very scared for me. I had no emotions other than sadness and I hid it so well behind my smile that he was fooled at first. I was numb. I couldn’t feel anything. I knew I was supposed to be happy. I had been told my whole life that I had it good and had no reason to be sad. I felt like it was my fault that I didn’t feel good.
I was told my whole life that I needed to lose weight, that I’d never be as good as Ellie, that my dreams and plans were stupid, my animals were the stupid ones. If I liked sheep and Ellie liked goats, then goats were the cool animal. When I liked Halfingers and Ellie and Hannah liked Fjords, then Fjords were cool (dad even looked into getting them) and Halflingers were stupid (although mom did actually stand with me on that one). Later on, Ellie got sheep and I liked goats, suddenly sheep were cool. I got a Fjord, he was known as a stupid, lazy horse and dad was all interested in getting Halflingers.  These may seem like silly things to be upset over. To me now they might be. But as a child and a young teenager it was devastating. Every time the family laughed at my dreams and what I liked, was like a physical slap in the face. I felt like my dreams weren’t worth saying because anything I wanted to do was bound to be laughed at, and in turned I felt like my life was worthless. I felt like a stranger in the middle of the people that were supposed to be my main support system. I turned to my animals because they never laughed at me. My horses became my best friends. It broke my heart when I had to sell Jewel, Zayn, and Fury. I didn’t cry because ‘they were just animals’.
As the fourth child and the fourth girl, I always felt like I was a disappointment to dad. I was just another girl, and I wasn’t super athletic, and the fact that I was sensitive (mainly called a crybaby by the siblings) made it a bit harder.  I felt like I could have disappeared and nobody would’ve missed me. I was just a number, “are you the oldest?” “no, I’m just number 4”, “oh..”.  As long as I did my work and didn’t say anything, I was practically ignored. Most of my memories with dad are negative. It would be him coming out to the garden in the hot MT summer and telling 7 year old me, that I hadn’t hoed the row properly and had to do it again, or I hadn’t washed the dishes properly, or I had to refold the laundry, vacuum the carpet again because it wasn’t up to his standards. The only time he would ‘teach’ us how to do something was if we had done it wrong the first time and he was getting after us. I learned to dread any interaction with him. He wasn’t a dad to me, he was a boss. I would be excited because I thought I had done a good job and then he would have nothing but criticism for me and I learned that I would never be good enough.
Out in BC after I had met everyone for coffee and supper, dad sent me a letter telling me how good I looked and that he was proud of me. I waited 21 years to hear those words. Every child wants their dad and mom to be proud of them. But after waiting that long to hear it, it was almost too late and the words seemed empty to me. I almost felt like dad was trying to take the hard work I had done and claim it as something he had done. I pulled myself up by my bootstraps. I flew halfway across the country by myself, moved in with strangers; I worked my butt off at two jobs and school. Every time I would mention that people were impressed by my hard work, dad or mom would say, ‘well that’s how we raised you to work’. I felt like even as an adult I wasn’t an individual. I was just one of those Holter kids and that mom and dad would always get the recognition for anything I had ever done.
The only people in the family that payed attention to me was the young kids that couldn’t keep up with Ellie yet. I would tell them stories, play games and help them. As soon as they could keep up with Ellie (and later on Jesse and Martha) they would go hang out with them and would laugh at me as well. I always felt like I didn’t belong. I was an outsider looking in on the family that was supposed to be mine. But I wasn’t needed or wanted. I was born into the wrong life.
Out in BC I cried like I have never cried before. I cried so hard that I couldn’t breathe, I’d crumple onto the ground, curl up into a ball and cry all the tears I had hidden away for the last 10 years.  I cried about being left behind. I cried about being ignored. I cried about selling my horses. But the hardest I cried was when I mourned being alone. I felt like an orphan, except my parents were still living. I have never had someone there to tell me that I was worth something, that they were lucky to have me. Never had someone tell me that I was a beautiful person and mean it. I never had someone care enough to take the time to talk over my dreams with me and get excited about them. When I sat on the ground in the round pen and cried that I wished that I had never been born, someone hugged me and said that she was happy I had been born because the world needed me. That was the first time I felt like someone loved me and needed me. I am extremely blessed to have met Sandra and Tom. Had I not met Sandra, I would probably not be here today. I was more scared of death than I was of life, but life was quickly becoming blank, grey lifeless. I don’t know if I would’ve killed myself, I honestly don’t know if I would’ve had to guts to do that. The truth is though, I was on the edge of being psychotic and I have no idea what I would’ve done.
I have PTS symptoms. My saddest realization was that the mental image I got when I would have a panic attack was my own dad’s face, his disappointment and disapproval. I am sad to say that sometimes his voice puts me into a panic attack. My therapist worked with me with EMDR (a movement therapy). She taught me how to deal with my panic attacks so I don’t become immobilized. I now know how to watch for the beginning symptoms a panic attack and take the proper steps to divert it.
I am getting better. My panic attacks are as severe or as frequent as they were before.  Part of what has helped is seeing the changes in dad. I have seen many positive changes. I see more positivity at home. I see that both mom and dad are trying to do better.
My depression is very low and I keep a good eye on it. I know what to do if it starts getting bad. I am managing it.

I have written this not to make you feel bad. I am hoping that you can see that I am trying to explain why I have taken the actions that I have. I did have to cut contact for a time so I could heal enough to be able to come back and see the new mom and dad without be overrun by old memories and emotions.
I know that you never intended to hurt me the way you did. I am writing this to you because I don’t the younger kids to ever have to feel the way I did. I don’t ever want anyone to have to feel the way I did. It’s scary as hell to not have any emotions. Some days I am completely blown away by the fact that I actually feel happy. I am smiling because I want to/I feel like it, not just because I’m supposed to.
I don’t want my dad to be the source of my panic attacks. I want to be able to remember the good times and not always have them blotted out by the bad memories. I want to repair relationships because life is too short. I don’t want to be bitter. I’m not going to ‘forgive and forget’, it’s not realistic. But processing and moving on is realistic and healthy.
I don’t want apologies. Apologies do not change my childhood. What would do a million times more for me than an apology is seeing my younger siblings loved, dreams encouraged, time taken to spend just to be with them, if they have an idea it may never be something that they do, but it could mean the world them if you help them research it and find out everything that you can about it.
I want to see the kids have the encouragement that I never felt like I got. I want them to be told that they are beautiful and them to know that you mean it. Don’t just say the words. Find something you really like about them and make sure and tell them. Cut down on the negativity between the siblings. It toxic and hurts way worse than you’ll ever know. I know this isn’t the easiest thing to do, but it’s so important.
Ezekiel can’t wait to get out. He never got the one on one time with dad. He is a genius. He is afraid of being laughed at, he hides it behind arrogance. He is going to require careful work if you don’t want to lose him.
I see Priscilla’s face just crumple when the younger kids say that she’s fat. I see her dreams fall flat when I hear someone mock her dreams with horses. She puts on a good face and laughs. She’s crying inside, can’t you see it?  Her eyes are sad even when the smile is there. She gets loud because she doesn’t know what else to do.
Uriah needs one on one time with dad. Not necessarily even working time, maybe a fun project. He’s gonna hit the arrogant stage. You’re going to say that he’s rebellious. He needs love and encouragement.
Ruth thinks that she’s not pretty. She’s gorgeous. The amount of times I’ve heard her say that she needs to lose weight kills me. (I don’t know what our family’s fixation on weight is, but it’s horrible.) She is young but she is pushing boundaries and looking for that love. She doesn’t need correction as much as she simply needs guidance and encouragement.
Sara is cute and she’s still the baby. But she also has plans and dreams. She needs to hear that you’re proud of her and that she matters.

I have seen a lot of changes.  I see you trying to do better. Thank you for trying to do better and provide a better childhood for the younger kids. It means the world to me that you recognize your mistakes and are doing your best to change.
I appreciate that you haven’t tried to change me back. I have found my happiness and my niche in this crazy world. I know you don’t agree with the choices I have made, but you have respected me. It’s the same respect that I have for you and I will not try to change the kids. I won’t talk religion with them. If they ask why I dress the way I do, why my hair is short, I’m not going to tell them because I don’t agree with you, I just tell them, because I want to. I have no need to convince them that you are bad, because even though I don’t agree with you, I do know that you aren’t bad.
I love you guys. I scared to death to send this. I’m not ready to talk about it in person and that is why I am writing it.
I’m doing my best to accept dad as my dad again. Please be patient with me. It won’t happen overnight. If you push too hard I will panic, I can’t help it.
I see the hurt in dad’s eyes every time I visit and don’t hug him even though I hug everyone else. That is what prompted this, that and the fact that I feel like it’s the season for changes. I have learned to follow my gut feelings. My gut feeling was that it was time to try and mend this broken relationship. Don't expect a hug next time I see you, but know that I am trying to work towards being able to do that and it not just be a motion that I need to do.
I thank you for the respect you have showed me in my choices even when you didn’t understand. I couldn’t explain at the time. I hope this helps you understand. I am hoping with all my heart that it doesn’t cause more stress and tension.
I will never understand why my personality is to care so deeply and to always try to set things right even if it means that I get hurt. But I wouldn’t change it for the world.
Love you
 Your daughter,

     Lydia Rose

A bit of my history

Whenever I tell someone that I have 10 siblings one of the first things they say is that we must have had a big house. I try to explain that no we actually lived in pretty small places most of my life.

Our place in Montana was the biggest house we ever lived in. It would've been a decent house size for 11 kids (if we had had that many at that time), but we only had 8 when we moved from there.

We moved to Melville, SK and had a three bedroom rancher style house. We immediately turned the rumpus room in the basement into the 'girls room' packing in 4 beds for the 4 oldest girls. It was damp and moldy most of the time and us four developed a lot of allergies there.
The bedrooms upstairs were used for the little girls, (who at that time were Martha and Priscilla, later on when Ruth was born, Martha moved downstairs), the boys, and the parents.
Later on dad cut a door in the side of the cistern wall, they put in carpet, hung a light, painted the walls and that became the boys room.

Where we rented in Bonners Ferry, ID was a bit bigger, but we moved out after 11 months. We moved back to SK and this is the house we moved to.

Four small bedrooms and a tiny room down stairs. Naomi, Ellie and Martha spent the winter months sleeping in the living room, then in the summer months they moved out to the 'sun room'.
The boys shared one room, little girls had one (Cilla, Ruth and Sara), Hannah and I shared one, and the parents had the fourth bedroom.

My family still currently lives in this house. But it's a little more suited for size now that half the children have moved out.
The little girls (Ruth and Sara) have one room, Cilla has her own room, and the two remaining boys share a room, although Ezekiel will be gone soon logging.

We crammed 13 people in this house along with the occasional calf or lamb that needed extra care.

Such as this surprise February calf that had to come in to dry off.

He didn't stay in the box for long.

I think we survived because us kids were never in the house for long. Even if it was -40* we would be outside if we didn't have to be in the house. If it was cold we stuck to the barn/tackroom/bush but if it was warm, who knew where you'd find a kid. :-)

You could find us in the front lawn, playing volley ball.

You might find us heading out for a ride.

Or you might find us miles away from home, going to the neighbour's for coffee.

Growing up was rough, and in a small house it was even tougher. But it got better as soon as I could leave the house and just go hang out with my siblings and visit a few friends. I spent a lot of time on horses, riding to town to get the mail, riding to my friends' place to have coffee and a visit.

And that is your random, little bit of my history, post. :-)

Strong

You might have panicked and dropped me like a hot rock.
But guess what, even with my heart breaking, hot is what I am. I'm walking down the street and getting double takes from all the guys.
I'm picking myself up. I'm looking life in the eye. I'm a country girl, that's what we do. I'm pulling on my boots and I've got my hat on, and yes, it's camo.

I'm that girl that you are going to be sad that you left behind.
I'm gonna spend my first little while away from you crying, wondering why, and what I did wrong.
Then I'm gonna realize that it wasn't me.
I didn't do anything wrong.
I loved.
That's not a problem. The real problem was that you weren't man enough to tell me that it wasn't going to work out. You couldn't even text me and say sorry but I need a break for a little while.
You ran.
My problem was that I held on. I do that.
I'm going to learn one of these days how to let go. Right now it's still hard and my heart is still breaking. I'm struggling to allow myself to feel these feelings without getting overwhelmed.

I'll get by. I am strong. I am tough.
I'm still going to be sad when I see you, but I'll work through it.
I still long for your touch, but I'll forget it someday.
I deserve more than what you gave me.
I'm a lady.

And those little things you liked best about me, my optimism, how I'm not squeamish, how I know the bush, the way I handle my horses. Those are still me, along with the one thing you couldn't handle, my love.
I am those things because I love.
I love quickly, I love deeply, and I love for a long time.

Go ahead and watch me walk away.
My heart is breaking, but my head is up, my shoulders are back, I walk straight and true and I have a smile for anyone who looks me in the eye.

Wild Roses

I went out for my walk/run today after work and as I was walking, I couldn't help but stop and smell the roses. I didn't stop for long because I was in the shade the mosquitoes started biting, but I stopped long enough for a good smell and a picture.

I love this flower that I was named after!
No matter how pretty the garden roses are, they will never match the simple beauty and rich scent of a wild rose.

The Spirits Among Us

I always knew I was different than my family. I could never be happy simply following the bible and one god. I couldn't stay focused on it, the wall was talking to me, when I touched the tree it held my hand, when I felt the wind in my face it said 'hello, beautiful person', when I walked into the barn it hugged me.
But these 'objects' weren't supposed to have spirits. They were inanimate objects. They couldn't talk to you, or touch you back. But they could, it happened every day. I would walk through the trees and feel them watching me. They protected me, they loved the interaction, one wild spirit talking to another.

I would climb the popular tree by the quonset, put my ear on it's trunk and listen to it talk in the wind.
It was my safe place when hell was happening in the house.

People look at my funny when I describe my love of winter, wild storms, wind, and rain. I feel the spirits of the weather and it's a wild and dangerous love.
They dare me to stand in their way.
They dare me to embrace them and feel their strength.

The wind calls my name, the rain asks me to come play.

There is a reason that rainy days are my favourites.
Sunny days are meant for doing things, rushing around and being busy.
Rainy, windy and stormy days are meant for relaxing and watching the power, listening to the voices and appreciating that these spirits let us live with them on this little globe.

Everything has a spirit, the animals have souls, and the gods have let us share in some of the beauty they have created.

Let go of the past

I try not to be annoyed.

I try to not let little comments (or continual comments) get to me.

I won't compete with my own family.

I just try to live my own life in a way that makes me happy.

I try to help animals, I try to help people, I'm a good friend, I'm a even better girlfriend, and I do my damned best to be a good sister.

Why she thinks this is a competition is beyond me.

She is happily married.

She has a payed off house.

She has two good jobs.

She has lots of friends.

Why does she think she has to wreck my relationship with my boyfriend?

He has a history. Yes I know his history. Way more than she'll ever know.

He is a honest man. Sometimes he tells me more about his history than I ever would've dreamed of asking. I never asked once what his history was. He freely told me.

When he told me that he trusts me it almost made me happier than when he accepted my invitation for a drink.

I trust him. I have since the first date, when I brought him home to my house where I lived alone and we talked for hours. If I hadn't of been so shy I would've let him stay the night that night.

I have spent many nights in his room. He holds my hand, he cuddles with me, he makes me laugh, he gives me a different viewpoint on life that makes me think, and he has never once done anything that might make me uncomfortable or anxious.

I would spend the next ten years with him if he wanted.

But anytime he makes a 'mistake', she thinks that she has a right to say that he has slipped back into drugs, even if that 'mistake' is to not contact me for a couple days.

He held my hand while we were walking and in the sweetest moment I've had with him, he nervously told me that in a couple years when he moves back to NB that there would be a place on the dairy farm for me and my horses if I wanted.

I like this man and I seriously think that I am going to love him one day.

Why can't she be happy that I'm happy. Even if it's not with her ideal match for me. I would never be content with someone like her husband and she would never forgive someone like my boyfriend for his past.
We are different people, so we gravitate to different people.

We are sisters.
We will love each other and we will hate each other.
To quote the movie War Horse,
"I may hate you more. But I will never love you less"

All I ask is for her to back off from my man,

Trust me when I say that I am happy,

And accept him as part of me so long as I claim him as part of me and my life.

Lest We Forget

In Canada we choose to show that we remember our soldiers by pinning on a poppy and holding services, in the US they call it Veterans day and have different proceedings.
But we are all remembering the same thing. We remember our family, friends, and strangers that have fought for the freedom of our countries.
In my own family I have many people to thank. I know that at least one of my Great-Grandpa's (Leon Leonard VanderMolen) served in the Army. I have uncles and cousins that have or are serving now.
My uncles Kris H. (Army or Navy I can't remember), Kenneth W. (Navy), Gary J. (Army), Duncan F. (Army),  and cousin Karista B. (Army), all served when they were younger. My cousins, Kylie O. (Army nurse), Levi W. (Army) and one of my other cousins that I haven't met yet are currently serving. Levi is on his second deployment right now.
I also have many friends that have served or are currently serving.

I am very grateful to all these people (and to the people I don't know) who have done so much to keep our counties safe.
Thank you!
May you never be forgotten!

Maybe someday I can join you in the work you do.  But for now I'll pin on my poppy and attend the service to say thank you.

Sister countries whose sons and daughters fight side by side.
My homeland and my adopted home.

Growing Up

WARNING!!!! SCARY AS HELL!!!!

It's fun, but holy crap! Bills, buying food, gas for the car, etc, etc, etc....

At the same time! Freedom! I can breath! I can make my own choices! I get to choose what I look like, what I wear, what I eat when I'm hungry, what I get to drink.

Growing up has been on my mind a lot lately. I start renting my own place come October. As a test run of sorts, while Naomi and Jesse are traveling for the month of August I get the house to myself. I don't mind living by myself, actually. I am a social person, I like hanging out with crowds. But I also like it just being me and my music. I am much more creative when I cook, and the dishes are done on time because there is no time limit.  I eat when I want and go to bed as early as I like. Plus I never have to worry about disturbing people with my music or being in the bathroom at the wrong time.

Tonight I made spaghetti (well, the sauce, meatballs, and some different pasta), I'm drinking a Dr. Pepper with cherry vodka, and I'm listening to country music. The sun is finally shining. I'm getting over a cold that has had me tuckered for 6 days. Finally feel good enough to drink anything other than tea, gatorade, or water, I may even drink some coffee tomorrow morning!
I finally felt good enough to check in on the Wii Fit this morning and I've lost about 6 lbs since I last weighed (sometime last week). I had to laugh, all I did was lay in bed for 4 days and then minimal walking around for 2 more, but I also only ate max two meals a day, drank tons of water, and used my energy fighting pain and sickness. While I do want to lose some more weight and get more toned I don't think I will be following this diet plan any longer than I have to.

All in all, I like it! Even if it is scary!
Next step, moving out of country by myself and living on my own!

The Unseen Universe

The universe is all tied together. We only feel/see/smell/interact with a very small part of it. I am hypersensitive to moods and feelings in the air. This is true with people or nature. I walk through the bush or the pasture and feel the life (or personalities) of the trees, water, grass, flowers, etc.

Sometimes I get overwhelmed while walking through a crowd of people, there is so much happening that my senses go into over load and I start to panic, then I end up shutting off my feelings. This causes me to get very quiet and sometimes sulky. I try to not shut down. Yesterday I managed to not. We walked into the crowd at The Forks in Winnipeg. It was Winnipeg Pride 2014. Lots of people, happy people, people not afraid of being different.
My senses got overwhelmed, I started to panic. But I did manage to not shut my senses off. I tried to understand why I was panicking.
I still haven't figured it out completely yet. My closest idea is that I was taught to hide my differences, these people were proud of theirs! I am rather in awe of them, they are doing what I want to do. And because I am just started on my journey to being confident and being proud of me differences I am very sensitive to those vibes.

Here is another random bit that I wrote and then it didn't fit in. It's on the same subject but a little different.

Some houses scare me while others feel like they are embracing me when I walk in. Sometimes it's the people that live in the house but other times it's in a completely empty house. Almost always I get the 'embraced' feeling when I walk into a barn. Animals don't create the bad spirits that people do. Everything has a spirit. I didn't used to think that way (because I was raised thinking that that would have been witch's talk, {and thinking that witches were bad}). I do a lot by feel, I will touch a tree, put my hand on the fence, etc. Even non-living things (such as fences) have spirits.
This is my view. I am no longer religious in the sense that I go to church, read the bible, pray. Instead I let my senses take over and I am much happier, peaceful, connected, and focused.

Of life, boys, and rentals...

I am getting really mad at my laptop right now as it is trying every trick in the book to frustrate me! Turning off, locking up, keyboard not working, touch pad not working, etc, etc. It is getting to that time I think that I need to replace it soon.

I am just restarting back into school trying to get the rest of my course finished up before June 13th. I only have two units left to do so I will be long done by then. :-)

Saturday I came down with the cold that Naomi and Jesse had. I worked all day but progressively felt worse and worse all day. I was pretty well wiped all day Sunday and Monday. Today I managed half a day of work and was full of energy this morning then by 2:00 pm I was almost falling over. I am glad I went in for the morning though. My 'friend' came in.

I have to laugh, because ever since I came back from BC the young guys that come into the store have been flirting with me. I'm assuming it's the new confidence. LOL! I don't mind too much as it gives me a chance to practice being friendly to guys and not be shaking in my boots the whole time.
Anyways there's been this young blonde kid that came in like three times in the first week that I was working there. It was the third time before I realized that he was trying to get my attention more than just the usual smile. I had a little laugh about it and talked it over with the other girls after. Two weeks he didn't come in and I was kind of relieved because then I didn't have to think about him. Saturday Naomi comes up while I'm on my break and tells me that he's in the store. It was kind of funny because I was disappointed that he was there (because I had just gotten him out of my head) but at the same time I was relieved that I hadn't scared him off.
Today he came in and I rang him through. He is so shy he won't say anything, but he won't look at anyone else except me. I am curios with how it'll all end up. I am not going to go up and talk to him (other than helping him find something) until I feel comfortable with doing that, but I won't discourage him. I'm just going to ride this out and see what happens.
It'll be a good test for my patience because I am the type that 'has to know everything right now'. I don't even know this kid's name so I can't even go and stalk him on Facebook.
All in all it's a new thing for me to be able to kinda flirt with guys (smile here and a smile there), and I'm realizing that it can be a bit of fun. Horror of horrors I'm turning into a girl! LOL!

I may have two places that are possibilities as far as renting. One is here in WhiteBear, a house owned by Jesse's cousin, and the other is the old Tweitmeyer farm out by Oxbow. Both have pros and cons. Here I could keep my job that I already have, plus I could teach a bit of guitar, but I will have to keep boarding my horses.
On the farm I would have to find a new job in Oxbow, I would be pretty far out from town (14 miles), I could keep my horses there, I could get layer hens, I could garden some, I do miss the farm.
Either place would work and actually both would be ideal.
I ran the farm idea past Paul and Dianne and they will talk to the other Tweitmeyers. Either way I wouldn't be moving out until October or November. Also either way I will need to get a new vehicle. If I stay here in WhiteBear I'll probably get a small SUV and if I go to the farm I will get truck.

Exciting stuff!

On to New Horizons

I am currently listening to Elvis!
Feeling happy because I was able to go into Vernon today and buy some clothes without getting frustrated and coming close to tears. This is a big accomplishment for me! I have a lot of trouble with knowing what will look good on me, or together.
I was able to buy a couple tops and a cute dress. Can't wait for summer to be able to wear summery clothes!
I am also happy about how my school is coming along. I am working on the unit review/send-in for unit 6.
I will be able to send it in on Tuesday and then take my unit exam hopefully on Tuesday or Wednesday.

My last day of work is Monday. I am so sad to leave all the people at WCRC. I fit in quite well there! Gonna miss the other CAPYI, Roy, as well.

Tuesday I get my follow up shots and see my doctor for the last time.

Thursday I say goodbye to my life here in "Beautiful British Columbia" and fly home to "The Land of Living Skies"
I can't wait to see my sister! I am excited to see all my friends again, being able to see for miles, give my horses hugs and kisses, work my old job, drive my van (never thought I'd miss it), and do anything else I want to while living on the best prairie land in the world!

I can't wait to be able to ride my boy, Coyote, down the back roads. Jogging or full out running.

I am excited to see what life has in store for me!
Here's to life and love!

Live your life with love.
Love how you live your life.
Life is nothing without love.

25 DAYS!!!!!

I'm so excited!
25 days until I fly back Saskatchewan!!!!!!

The time is going slow, but also flying by!
I am sad to leave everyone. I'm trying to get school worked on. Plane ticket getting bought. Stuff getting packed up. Reality will hit me about a week before I go.

Right now I am waiting for my sister to let me know if it's a good time to call. We had planned this call a couple days ago and then I went and left my phone charger at work, so I have to use the house phone here. It's fine but I was looking forward to facetime with her!

I can't believe that I only have three weeks left here!

My mind won't concentrate at all today. I am trying school and I can't think, so I go and try surfing the web and I can't concentrate on that either. Maybe the reality is settling in right now. LOL!
So I was smart and went and made myself a coffee. That will help me concentrate for sure! Okay, maybe I wasn't smart. Whoops!

Happy dance, happy dance, happy dance!!!!!

Here's an update for how I look! Well, a couple weeks back. But not much has changed since the picture was taken.

On other news, spring has come! The yard is slush and mud. It smells amazing! Chores no longer require wool socks, leggings under my pants, gloves, or double sweat shirts under my coat!
This makes me happy because I hate gloves! They take away feeling. I have to feel stuff to be able to understand it. So I hate gloves! And there is your rabbit trail of the day, and random snidbit about me. You're welcome!

Time is faster than life

Time is whizzing by and in just a little more than a month I will be on an airplane heading back to Saskatchewan.
I am so happy to have gotten this chance to live out here for as long as I have. I learned tons, I found out about my problems, and how to take care of them. I am a healthier person, mentally, emotionally and physically.

I am cramming on school, enjoying work, and fully enjoying a warm winter!

My job gets done on the 31st of March and I fly out on the 3rd of April.
I am so excited to see Saskatchewan again!
Seeing the kids more often, being with my horses, be able to go to music camp, see all my friends again, and everything else that comes with moving back to the province that adopted me 11 years ago and I call home.

Of course I'll miss the horses here, my friends that I have made at school, work, and coffee shops.
I might miss be known as Lydia, not just, 'one of the Holter girls'. But then again, I can make myself stand out more now too.

I now know that I can move two provinces away from my family and not see any of them for 8 months and I won't die. I can take the homesickness and missing the kids, it hurts, but it also made me stronger.

Life has been good to me.
I'll do my best to be good to it.

And it has taught me this
